Are All Babies Born Muslim? A Theological and Logical Refutation

Are All Babies Born Muslim? A Theological and Logical Refutation

By Dr. Maxwell Shimba | Shimba Theological Institute

Introduction

In the realm of religious claims, few are as puzzling and logically inconsistent as Islam’s assertion that every human being is born a Muslim. According to Sahih Muslim, Book 33, Hadith 6426, “Every child is born upon the fitrah (Islamic natural disposition), and it is his parents who make him a Jew, a Christian, or a Magian.”

This assertion claims that belief in Islam is the natural state of humanity from birth — a convenient yet absurd claim designed to promote indoctrination rather than reasoned faith. As a theologian and defender of Biblical truth, I, Dr. Maxwell Shimba, feel compelled to dissect this claim theologically, scientifically, and logically.

Debate Point 1: Where Is the Evidence?

If, as Islam claims, every child is born a Muslim:

  • Why does no child possess any innate awareness or understanding of Allah, the Qur’an, or Islamic doctrine?

  • Why do children of Christian, Jewish, Hindu, or secular families not naturally gravitate toward Islamic belief?

Biblical Response:
The Bible makes it clear that while mankind is made in God’s image (Genesis 1:27), we are born with a fallen nature (Psalm 51:5) — not with a pre-programmed religious identity. Furthermore, Ecclesiastes 7:29 states, “God made mankind upright, but men have gone in search of many schemes.” This places moral agency in the hands of each person, not some fabricated natural disposition to Islam.

Debate Point 2: The Absurdity of “Muslim Sperm”

Some Islamic scholars and preachers have gone so far as to claim that even sperm is Muslim. This statement not only contradicts elementary biology but makes a mockery of logic and reason.

Logical Challenge:
How can a microscopic cell, incapable of consciousness, emotion, morality, or decision-making, hold any religious belief? Cells do not practice religion, pray, or contemplate eternity. To suggest otherwise is to abandon the very intellect with which God endowed humanity.

Debate Point 3: The Danger of Indoctrination

This flawed doctrine serves a strategic purpose: it frames Islam as the default, thereby making apostasy appear as rebellion against one's own "natural" state. It is a theological tactic to guilt and shame adherents into submission.

Contrast with Christianity:
Christianity respects the sanctity of free will. Jesus calls people to choose Him freely (John 3:16, Revelation 3:20). Faith in Christ is not coerced by birth, but invited by grace.

Debate Point 4: Divine Consistency and Fairness

If God, in His wisdom, made all children Muslim by birth — yet allows them to be raised in other faiths and then punishes them for leaving Islam later — how is that just?

Biblical Principle:
God is perfectly just (Deuteronomy 32:4). The Bible teaches that judgment is based on personal choice, willful rejection of truth, and moral responsibility — not on circumstances of birth.

Conclusion: A Call to Reason and Truth

The Islamic claim that “every baby is born Muslim” lacks biblical, logical, and scientific foundation. It is a relic of religious indoctrination aimed at controlling thought and identity from infancy.

The True Biblical Position:
God created mankind with the freedom to seek, reason, and believe. Every human being is called to discover the truth of the Gospel — that salvation comes through faith in Jesus Christ alone (Acts 4:12). The offer of eternal life is open to all who choose to accept it.

Proverbs 12:22 boldly declares:
"The Lord detests lying lips, but He delights in people who are trustworthy."

Let us abandon myths and return to the truth of God’s Word. Islam’s desperate claim of universal Muslim birth is yet another example of religious propaganda masquerading as theology.

To my Muslim friends: the invitation remains — come to Jesus Christ, the Way, the Truth, and the Life (John 14:6). Reject deception, and embrace the eternal truth found only in Him.
