Are All Babies Born Muslim? A Theological and Logical Refutation
By Dr. Maxwell Shimba | Shimba Theological Institute
Introduction:
In the ever-baffling world of Islamic theology, there exists a claim so irrational, so detached from both logic and divine revelation, that it demands public scrutiny. According to Sahih Muslim, Book 33, Hadith 6426, Islam teaches that every child is born a Muslim. Yes, without understanding, choice, or knowledge — supposedly born reciting the Shahada in their hearts, ready to embrace the ummah.
But is this claim credible? Is it consistent with divine revelation, reason, or human experience? As a theologian committed to Biblical truth and intellectual honesty, I, Dr. Maxwell Shimba, intend to dissect and expose this fallacy.
Islamic Claim: Every Baby Is Born a Muslim
Sahih Muslim 6426 states:
“Every child is born upon the fitrah (Islamic natural disposition), and it is his parents who make him a Jew, a Christian, or a Magian.”
The implication is clear: humans are created predisposed to Islam, and any deviation is external corruption.
But this proposition fails on several levels.
Debate Point 1: Where’s the Evidence?
If every child is born Muslim:
-
Why can’t a newborn profess or understand Islam?
-
Why does Islamic theology conveniently blame parents for religious diversity?
-
Why did God give humans free will if belief is pre-programmed?
Biblical Refutation:
Ecclesiastes 7:29 — “God made mankind upright, but men have gone in search of many schemes.”
Nowhere in Scripture does it teach that humanity is born into a preloaded religious identity. Rather, mankind is created with the ability to choose, reason, and seek after God (Acts 17:27).
Debate Point 2: The Absurdity of “Muslim Sperm”
Some Islamic preachers have further exaggerated this claim by stating that “even sperm is Muslim”. This notion not only contradicts established biology but mocks the very intelligence God endowed humanity with.
Logical Challenge:
How can a microscopic cell — devoid of consciousness, morality, or belief — possess religious affiliation? It’s religious mythology masquerading as theology.
Debate Point 3: The Danger of Indoctrination
This claim facilitates one of Islam’s gravest tactics: indoctrination through fear and shame.
By insisting that Islam is the natural state, anyone who leaves it is branded an apostate worthy of punishment — a doctrine completely foreign to the teachings of Jesus Christ.
John 8:32 — “Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
Christianity exalts free will, not forced conformity.
Final Challenge to Muslims
If you genuinely believe in logic, conscience, and divine justice:
-
Why perpetuate a doctrine that no infant can verify?
-
Why silence dissent with threats rather than reasoned debate?
-
Why not test these claims by the light of Scripture and reason?
Proverbs 12:22 says: “The Lord detests lying lips, but He delights in people who are trustworthy.”
The claim that all babies are born Muslim is a spiritual con job designed to bind souls in chains of fear. Reject it. Embrace the liberating truth of Jesus Christ — the only sinless Savior and the Son of the living God.
Conclusion:
Islam’s assertion that every baby is born a Muslim is not only unbiblical and unscientific, but an affront to human dignity and divine truth.
At Shimba Theological Institute, we boldly declare:
There is no revert, only converts. Truth is not inherited — it is discovered. And only in Christ is true salvation found.
