Ugandan police stumble on mosque 'radicalization center'

Police made the discovery after a suspect they were following bolted into the mosque, apparently seeking safe haven. Two suspects were killed during a shootout, after which police discovered dozens of hostages.

Ugandan police stumbled onto a "radicalization center" at a mosque in the capital, shooting dead two suspects, arresting dozens more and freeing more than 100 women and children being held against their will, officials announced Saturday.

The confrontation occurred Friday as police were pursuing a suspect thought to have been involved in a high-profile kidnapping and murder earlier in the year. Police followed the man into the Usafi Mosque in Kampala and discovered it was a den for militants.

Two of the alleged militants were shot dead during the ensuing shootout, and one police officer was wounded.

Children of Terror

Subsequently, 36 suspects were arrested and charged with hoarding weapons. Police also discovered 18 women and 94 children being held against their will inside the mosque.

"A number of children and women, suspected to either have been kidnapped or held hostage, were rescued," police spokesman Emilian Kayima told a press conference on Saturday.

"Two of the hostage-takers were shot dead after violently attacking and severely injuring one of the security officers," Kayima added.

He said the original suspect whom the police followed into the mosque was taken into custody.

Police are continuing to investigate the connection between the original suspect and the militants found inside the mosque.

Machetes and bullets

The men taken into custody are suspected of being involved with the kidnapping and illegal detention of the women and children. Some of the detainees were Ugandan but others came from neighboring East African countries, including Kenya, Rwanda and Burundi.

Police also confiscated 23 machetes, dozens of bullets and a bow and arrow after the shootout.

Police believe that the suspect they were following realized he was being trailed and ran into the mosque to seek safe haven.

Interior Minister Jeje Odong said police were taken by surprise when they discovered the weapons, women and children inside the mosque, it was not "planned or intended," he said.

"If the suspect had not gone into the mosque we would have had no reason to enter," Odong said. "We take strong exception to places of worship being used to commit crime."

The children discovered inside the mosque "looked scared and traumatized," Odong added.

Earlier this year, after a member of a prominent Ugandan family was kidnapped, a series of ransom demands were made. But in February, three weeks after her abduction, the body of Susan Magara was found.

The crime shocked Ugandans, and President Yoweri Museveni ordered intelligence agencies to lead an investigation into her murder.

Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman reportedly said in a closed-door meeting that Palestinians should accept peace negotiations or "shut up and stop complaining."

According to Barak Ravid, a journalist for Israel's Channel 10 News, the crown prince offered harsh criticism of Palestine when speaking with leaders of several Jewish organizations while in New York last month.

"In the last several decades the Palestinian leadership has missed one opportunity after the other and rejected all the peace proposals it was given," the crown prince said according to a wire sent by the Israeli consulate in New York to Israel's foreign ministry in Jerusalem which summarized the meeting, as well as information from several US and Israeli diplomats with knowledge of the meeting.

"It is about time the Palestinians take the proposals and agree to come to the negotiations table or shut up and stop complaining."

Saudi's young prince - who is known to have different views on the Israeli-Palestinian peace processthan his father King Salman, having openly supported Israel's right to exist in the past - also reportedly made clear that the Palestinian issue was not a priority for the Kingdom.

The crown prince told the crowd that Saudi Arabia has "has much more urgent and important issues to deal with," including curbing Iranian influence in the region, though he was clear that in order to normalize relations between Israel and the Arab world, a formal peace agreement must be advanced.

Saudi Arabia has historically played a central role in Middle East peace talks, and spearheaded a proposal called The Arab Peace Initiative, which called for an end to the Arab-Israeli conflict, in 2002.

The crown prince has recently stepped up his role in advancing talks, and has met with presidential adviser Jared Kushner and other US officials to discuss the Arab role in bringing about Middle East peace.

But recent comments point to the Kingdom growing tired of mediating between Palestine and Israel, as clashes between the two sides continue, casting doubt on current peace efforts.

The crown prince has also been focused on shifting the Saudi foreign policy strategy, and may have found an unlikely ally in neighbor Israel.

Saudi Arabia and Israel currently do not share diplomatic ties but recent moves point to a major thawing in their relationship.

Saudi Arabia and Israel have also bonded over their shared goals in the Middle East, including defeating what they consider to be Iran's regional power grab.

Iranian Women Dress as Men to Attend Soccer Match…

A group of Iranian female soccer fans used false beards to challenge a ban on women’s presence in football matches and managed to enter the stadium and encourage their team to win a local league tournament.

Video clips and a wide variety of photos were posted on the websites showing these five young women cheering the names of their favorite players, while wearing wigs and false beards.

The girls were fans of Perspolis, one of the most prominent teams in Tehran, which had already won the professional championship and won the trophy after the match against the Spidrod Rasht scoring three goals.

The girls carried red flags of Persepolis and raised six fingers to the cameras, a gesture that is very popular among the fans of the team supporting the club to repeat one of the most famous results, 6-0.

One of the girls, called Zahra, spoke to a local sports newspaper. She said that there were eight members of the group and had made similar attempts to enter the stadium earlier.

Quality of make-up

However, because of the poor quality of their beards and bad make-up and hair they were identified at the gates and were thrown out.

Since then, many girls have devised ways to enter stadiums, where women have been banned from attending men’s football matches since the 1979 Iranian revolution.

In late January, Iranian websites circulated picture of a girl who had dressed as man and at the Azadi stadium in Tehran to attend a match between the Independence and Paras.

Another girl disguised herself as man, then put on makeup and painted a moustache and a beard on her face.

She was able to enter the stadium with ease and cheer her team, Peruzi Tehran, which was playing against Ahwaz Folaz Khorasan on 24th of December.

Photos of her cheering for her team from inside the stadium had also gone viral.

Former Policemen Help Train Jihadis in Mozambique…

Maputo — Former policemen, expelled from the Mozambican police force, have been assisting islamist insurgents in the northern province of Cabo Delgado, according to a report in Monday's issue of the independent newssheet “Mediafax”.

The paper quotes research undertaken by two respected independent bodies, the Institute of Economic and Social Studies (IESE) and the Civil Society Support Mechanism (MASC), which makes the alarming claim that the islamists have training bases both inside and outside the country.

The study confirms that the group arose in the northern districts of Cabo Delgado first as a religious group, but as from 2015 it began to include military cells.

Initially the group called itself “Ahlu Sunnah Wa-Jama”, which means “adepts of the prophetic tradition”. They believed that the Islam practised by the orthodox mosques in Mozambique was degenerate, and had deviated from the teachings of the Prophet Mohammed.

The IESE and MASC researchers (Saide Habibe, Salvador Forquilha and Joao Pereira) found that the group claimed to be “restoring the traditional values of Islam”. Because they believed Mozambican Islam to be a decadent form of the religion, they would enter mosques wearing shoes and carrying knives and similar weapons - an attitude that shocks orthodox Muslims. Eventually, they broke away entirely, and set up their own places of worship.

They called for the imposition of Sharia law, and refused to recognise the structures of the Mozambican state.

The study's sources said that the group has training camps in the Cabo Delgado districts of Mocimboa da Praia, Macomia and Montepuez. In Mocimboa da Praia, where the group staged its first attacks against police installations on 5 October last year, they are using the back yards of houses owned by their leaders.

Outside the country, they are supposedly trained by militias in the Great Lakes region, and also at Kibiti in Tanzania.

Domestically, the study says, “they have been trained by agents of the Mozambican police who have been expelled from the force, and agents of the frontier guards”.

As for training outside the country, the study says “the militia chiefs were hired by the Al Shabaab network in Tanzania, Kenya and Somalia to train recruits from northern Mozambique. In payment, the militia chiefs receive money”.

Local people in Cabo Delgado call the group “Al Shabaab” - apparently not because of any connections with the Somali terrorist organisation of that name, but because “Al Shaaab” means “the Youth” in Arabic, and the group mainly consists of young muslims from Mocimboa da Praia.

Secret Church Found in Former ISIS Territory Dates Back to 3rd Century

A 'secret church' in Syria dating back to the first centuries of Christianity has been discovered by archaeologists in a territory held by Islamic State for more than two years.

The ancient tunnel system, found in the city of Manbij, is believed to have once served as a refuge for Christians who faced persecution during the Roman Empire, according to Fox News which toured the site.

Next to a mound used to dump rubbish, researchers found the remains of an ancient gate leading to a sprawling tunnel system containing escape routes, hidden doors, Greek inscriptions, and a makeshift altar.

Notably, crosses were etched into columns and walls alongside writings carved into stone

The underground network is believed to have beem a significant refuge for Christians in the third or fourth century AD, Fox News reported.

The complex apparently includes a graveyard that could have been used for the church clergy, with human remains found inside large stone tombs.

Archaeologists first made the discovery in 2014 but then kept it secret before excavations could finally begin in August of 2017, a year after Islamic State was driven out of the area.

Fox News said that locals then helped to find a second element of the tunnel system, with stone steps leading down to a cave filled with rooms and Christian symbols.

'This place is so special,' said Abdulwahab Sheko, head of the exploration committee at the Ruins Council in Manbij, speaking to Fox News about the 'first location.'

'Here is where I think the security guard would stand at the gate watching for any movement outside.

'He would warn the others to exit through the other passage if they needed to flee.'

Fox News quoted John Wineland, professor of history and archaeology at Southeastern University, who provided context and said the findings 'indicate that there was a significant Christian population in the area which felt they needed to hide their activities. This is probably an indication of the persecution by the Roman government, which was common in the period.'

Wineland said that Christians were persecuted 'sporadically at first, and later more systematically by the Roman government'.

Christianity was illegal in the Roman Empire until its worship was decriminalised by Emperor Constantine in 313 AD.

Wineland said that Christians of the time 'met in secret, underground, to avoid trouble. But the Romans were fearful of any group that met in secret.'

Islam in Russia: 2 Million Ethnic Muslims Leave Islam For Russian Orthodox Christianity

From this article at 1 Muslim Nation I would like to bring the state of Islam in Russia to the notice of my conscious Muslim brothers and sisters.

You may have read or heard many Muslim as well as non-Muslim sources that claim Russia will  or could become a Muslim state by 2050 or atleast by the end of this century! The reality of Islam in Russia is however vastly different.

2,000,000 people left Islam Vs 2,000-5000 people embrace Islam!

According to information I believe to be accurate, since the collapse of the Soviet Union in the Christian Year of 1991, between 2000 – 5000 ethnic Russians embraced Islam. At the same time if the Russian and other news articles I’ve read recently are correct, more or less 2 million ethnic Muslims have converted to Russian Orthodox Christianity!

Certainly Islam is growing in Russia and alhamdulliallah, I’m happy to hear about our Russian Muslim brothers and sisters efforts in reviving Islam among Russian Muslims since the end of godless Soviet Union in 1991. Given in the lackluster support for dawah and reviving Islam from the socalled Muslim countries or the Muslim world.  Islam is in a much stronger position in Russia today than it was 20 years ago after the sad state of religions in Russia after 70 years of Soviet communist religion suppression.

However recently I’ve read some articles I think are genuine and more accurate about the real ground situation in Russia and the real state of Islam in Russia.

From this I think that Russia becoming a Muslim country in the near future is hype and a half baked conclusion drawn from inaccurate statistics and understanding of the real situaions of Muslims and Islam in Russia.

I’m sorry to crush the hope and dream of Muslims with good dawah intentions and the ambitions of Islamophobes with anti Islam intentions and Christians and others with their own Christian missionary and political agenda.

The Orthodox Church of Russia is said to be concerned with the growing estimates that Islam is poised to become a rapidly growing minority and potentially a majority by the year 2050.[9] However, in a BBC interview, Russian demographer, Viktor Perevedentsev, dismisses the notion that Russia could become a majority Muslim nation and says this is a specter being deliberately whipped up by politicians with little understanding of demography. He acknowledges that there are very high birth rates among these population groups but insists they merely reflect an earlier stage of development and will ultimately fall. In 50 years’ time, he says, Muslims will still be a small part of Russia’s overall population.[10] While various Muslim sources claim that Islam is the fastest growing religion in Russia and that ethnic Russians are converting to Islam in large numbers, Roman Silantyev, the executive secretary of the Interreligious Council of Russia denounces this as a myth.[11]

Silantyev states that in recent years more than two million people from various ethnic Muslim backgrounds including Tatar, Azeri, Ingush, Kazakh, etc. have converted from Islam to Orthodox Christianity in Russia, while the number of ethnic Russians who have converted to Islam is between two thousand and five thousand. Silantyev stated most of the converts are Muslims by birth who were non-practicing, while Muslims who regularly attend mosque rarely convert. He said that the conversions happen not so much due to proselytization but instead due to the influence of the dominant Russian culture, which is Orthodox Christian.[11] Silantyev also claimed that that as confirmed by many sources including Muslim sources, after every major terrorist incident conducted by Islamic extremists in Russia, thousands, or possibly even tens of thousands of Muslims convert to Christianity. For example, Silantyev noted that after the Beslan School Massacre in North Ossetia, the proportion of Muslims in North Ossetia decreased by 30%, while in Beslan itself, where Muslims had comprised between 30 to 40% of the population, their number has decreased at least by half.[11]

The relations between the Russian Orthodox Church and Islam in Russia are very difficult and controversial. We can single out two groups: one can be called “For cooperation with Islam” and the second “Against Islam”. Their followers have different views on the problems of proselytism, inter-religion dialogue, the religious policy of the state, and the foreign policy of Russia.[12]

According to an official estimate conducted by the Russian Inter-religious Council, approximately 400 Russian Orthodox clergy belong to traditionally Muslim ethnic groups, 20 percent of Tatars are Christian, and 70 percent of interfaith marriages result in the Muslim spouse converting to Christianity. At the same time, the expert accounts for the small number of ethnic Orthodox people who have adopted Islam since 1990, among other things, by the fact that ‘for some reason Russians seem to be more willing to join sects than Islam’.[11]

In the years since the Beslan tragedy, North Ossetian security officials have sought to close down all independent Muslim organizations there. Towards this end, the authorities in Beslan and across North Ossetia arrested numerous independent Muslim leaders, sometimes even planting evidence on them and sentencing them to confinement in prison camps. And fearing arrest, other Muslim leaders either stopped preaching in public or fled the republic.[13] .

According to the Russian newspaper “Nasha Versiya”, “Many children who survived the terrorist act and the parents of those who did not have been baptized, despite the fact that earlier they considered themselves Muslims. And those residents of Beslan who died, including Muslims, have been buried according to Orthodox custom, and none of their relatives has complained.” [13] However, some of those who convert quickly fall away from the faith, and at least some of these get radicalized and join Islamist organizations.[13]

At the same time, there is a small but growing number of Russian converts to Islam.[14] Notable Russian converts to Islam include Vladimir Khodov and Alexander Litvinenko, a defector from Russian intelligence, who converted on his deathbed.

5 Mosques that Converted into Church In Spain

The Muslim Moors feint Spain for a long time and when they left, they left a significant mark on Spanish culture and architecture that can be seen today. 1- The Great Mosque of Córdoba

The Grand Masjid of Córdoba is considered a great masterpiece from both side Muslims and Christians. It was built between 784 and 987 on a site of a Visigothic church in the rule of Al-Andalus in Córdoba. Its design is regarded as one of the most accomplished monuments of Moorish architecture.

After the defeat of Córdoba by Ferdinand III of Castile in 1236, it was turned into Catholic Church. It was rebuilt over the following centuries, but its many features are saved in its original architectural features. In 1984, the Great Mosque was affixed to the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites as a part of the Historic Center of Córdoba.

2- Mosque of Cristo de la Luz

It was the former Masjid in Toledo, Spain. It was the only worship place for Muslim in this city. It was built in 999, and its building is a shortage in that it is in much the same situation as it was when it was originality built. But it was converted into the church after the city was summoned up by the Christians.

Commonly, this mosque is supposed one of the best Moorish Masjid in Spain. It is not made according to the unique Moorish style and local building style but it also the authority of the Caliphate of Córdoba. It is spectacular columns and a magnificent Masjid of the Córdoba.

3- Giralda

It is the bell tower of the Cathedral Seville in the Seville, Spain. In the Moorish period rule, it was built at a minaret with a Renaissance style. It was recorded in 1987 as a World Heritage site by UNESCO. The minaret is 104.1 meter in height and familiar as one of the most vital signs of the city Seville.

It was built under architect Ahmad Ben Baso in 1184 and was completed in 1198 with the copper spheres on the minaret’s top. Like many other Islamic theological structures in Spain, this mosque was turned into the church. In 1248, when the Christians defeated the Seville city the minaret was known as the bell tower.

Due to the earth quick of 1365, the structure of the former Masjid was damaged and rebuilt the current Cathedral. It was survived and late 16th, and 17th century it was built higher.

4- Almonaster Mosque or Almonaster la Real

It is one of the surviving Spanish rural Masjid. It was built on the site from a Visigothic basilica from the 5th century. In the rule of Abd al-Rahman III in the 9th and 10th centuries, it has been constructed with three components: the pillared prayer hall, the courtyard of Wudu and minaret tower.

In the 13th century, it became an early Christian church, Nuestra Senora de la Concepcion. In the 18th century, the Christian was turned by a fresco dome, called the ‘Hermita de la Concepcion.’ In 1931, it was stated a National Monument.

5- Alcazar Of Jerez De La Frontera

This mosque is a part of the former Moorish fortress in Jerez de la Frontera, Andalusia, Spain and only one surviving mosque of total 18, which were built in the Andalusia city during the Moorish region. In the 11th century, the first fortress was probably built when Jerez was part of the insignificant kingdom of the taifa of Arcos de la Frontera.

A new design was stuffed to be used as both dwelling and fortress by the rule of Almohad of Southern Spain, in 12th century. After the Christian reconquest of Alcazar of Jerez de la Frontera in the middle of the 13th century, this mosque was turned into the church and its minaret into a bell tower. In 1931, the complete fortress was declared the Property of Cultural Interest.

These are those five mosques that are converted to the church in a different period. All mosques were built in the rule of Islamic culture and turned into the church after the defeat of Christians. All Masjids are located in Spain’s different city and timeworn mosques.

18 Mimi nitawaondokeshea nabii miongoni mwa ndugu zao mfano wako wewe, nami nitatia maneno yangu kinywani mwake, naye atawaambia yote nitakayomwamuru.

19 Hata itakuwa, mtu asiyesikiliza maneno yangu atakayosema yule kwa jina langu, nitalitaka kwake.

20 Lakini nabii atakayenena neno kwa kujikinai kwa jina langu, ambalo sikumwagiza kulinena, au atakayenena katika jina la miungu mingine, nabii yule atakufa.

Sasa tuangalie uthibitisho kutoka Quran kuwa Muhammad na au utume wa Muhammad ni bandia.

Surat Al Baqara 49. Na vile tulipo kuokoeni kwa watu wa Firauni walio kupeni adhabu mbaya, wakiwachinja wana wenu wa kiume na wakawawacha hai wanawake; na katika hayo ulikuwa ni mtihani mkubwa ulio toka kwa Mola wenu Mlezi.

50. Na tulipo ipasua bahari kwa ajili yenu na tukakuokoeni, tukawazamisha watu wa Firauni, na huku mnatazama.

51. Na tulipo muahidi Musa masiku arubaini, kisha mkachukua ndama (mkamuabudu) baada yake, na mkawa wenye kudhulumu.

52. Kisha tukakusameheni baada ya hayo, ili mpate kushukuru.

53. Na tulipo mpa Musa Kitabu na pambanuo ili mpate kuongoka.

Surat Al Imran 21. Hakika wanao zikataa Ishara za Mwenyezi Mungu, na wakawauwa Manabii pasipo haki, na wakawauwa watu waamrishao Haki wabashirie adhabu kali.

22. Hao ndio ambao vitendo vyao vimeharibika duniani na Akhera. Nao hawatapata wa kuwanusuru.

Al Ankabut 28. Na pale Lut'i alipo waambia watu wake: Hakika nyinyi mnafanya uchafu, ambao hapana mmoja katika walimwengu aliye kutangulieni kwa hayo.

KWENYE AYA HIZO ZA QURAN TUNAJIFUNZA NA AU SOMA KUWA, YOTE YALIYO TAJWA NI HABARI ZILIZO PIA, YAANI HISTORIA, NA HAKUNA UNABII HATA MMOJA.
