The declaration by Jesus in John 15:1 from the Peshitta Holy Bible translation, where He states, "I AM the Living God, the True Vine, and my Father is the vinedresser," provides profound insight into His divine identity and role in the lives of believers. This chapter will explore the spiritual symbolism behind Jesus as the True Vine and God as the Vinedresser, using Bible verses, expository study, exhaustive references from Strong’s Concordance, and comprehensive commentary.

The Context of “I AM the Living God”

In the Peshitta translation, Jesus begins by declaring, “I AM the Living God.” This statement aligns with the “I AM” sayings throughout the Gospel of John, where Jesus identifies Himself with titles that reveal His divine identity and mission. The phrase "I AM" (Greek: egō eimi, Strong’s G1473 and G1510) echoes God's self-revelation to Moses in Exodus 3:14"I AM WHO I AM."

Jesus uses "I AM" to assert His divine nature, directly associating Himself with God’s self-existent, eternal nature. By saying, “I AM the Living God,” Jesus confirms His identity as the source of all life, underscoring His divinity and unity with the Father.

John 8:58 affirms Jesus' divine identity: "Jesus said to them, ‘Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.’" This statement led His listeners to understand that He was claiming equality with God, which, in their view, warranted the penalty of stoning for blasphemy.

Jesus as the True Vine

When Jesus declares, "I AM…the True Vine", He uses a metaphor that would resonate deeply with His audience. The vine and vineyard imagery was often used in the Old Testament to symbolize Israel, God's chosen people. However, where Israel failed to produce the expected fruit of righteousness, Jesus fulfills this role as the True Vine.

Psalm 80:8-9 depicts Israel as a vine: “You brought a vine out of Egypt; You drove out the nations and planted it. You cleared the ground for it, and it took root and filled the land.” Israel, however, often failed to bear good fruit, as described in Isaiah 5:1-7.

By calling Himself the True Vine, Jesus indicates that He embodies the faithful, fruitful life that Israel was meant to live. In Him, believers find the source of spiritual life, growth, and sustenance. This role as the vine emphasizes that He is the source of all spiritual nourishment, the only means by which believers can bear genuine fruit.

The Role of the Vinedresser

In John 15:1, Jesus also describes His Father as “the vinedresser.” The term “vinedresser” (Greek: geōrgos, Strong’s G1092) signifies one who tends, prunes, and cares for the vine to ensure it produces abundant fruit. In the context of this metaphor, the Father’s role involves nurturing and disciplining believers to help them grow in faith and produce good fruit.

Hebrews 12:6 explains this process: “For whom the Lord loves He chastens, and scourges every son whom He receives.” God’s pruning work may involve trials and challenges that shape a believer’s character and faith.

The imagery of God as a careful gardener underscores His love and patience. Through discipline and guidance, He nurtures believers to maturity in Christ, aligning them with His will and purpose.

Abiding in the Vine

In John 15:4, Jesus instructs His followers, “Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.” The word abide (Greek: menō, Strong’s G3306) means to remain, dwell, or stay connected. Abiding in Jesus, the True Vine, is essential for spiritual growth and fruitfulness.

Galatians 5:22-23 lists the fruits of the Spirit: “love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.” These are the natural results of a life deeply rooted in Christ.

In John 15:5, Jesus reiterates, “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.” This statement emphasizes dependence on Christ. The branch derives its life, strength, and capacity to produce fruit from its connection to the vine. Similarly, believers must remain in a close, continual relationship with Jesus to experience the transformative power of His Spirit.

The Importance of Pruning

Pruning is an essential part of cultivating a healthy vineyard. Jesus teaches that the Father, as the Vinedresser, prunes every branch that bears fruit to make it even more fruitful (John 15:2). This spiritual pruning involves removing anything that hinders spiritual growth or distracts believers from their calling.

Hebrews 12:11 explains the purpose of divine discipline: “No chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.”

In Romans 5:3-4, Paul elaborates on the refining process: “And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope.” God’s pruning may involve trials, but it ultimately strengthens a believer’s faith and character.

Through this statement, Jesus reveals His role as the beginning and the end, the origin and fulfillment of all things. This chapter will examine the layers of meaning behind the terms "Alap" and "Tau," using Bible verses, expository study, Strong’s Concordance, and comprehensive commentary.

The Context of “I Am the Alap and the Tau”

The phrase “I am the Alap and the Tau” is the Aramaic equivalent of “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” found in many Greek translations of Revelation.   1. He Who Is – Jesus is eternally present, embodying the divine “I AM.” This corresponds with God’s timeless existence.

  3. He Who Is Coming – Jesus’ future return as judge and ruler signifies His ongoing role in God’s redemptive plan.

Hebrews 13:8 reinforces this concept: “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” His unchanging nature brings assurance to believers that He remains the same in character and purpose throughout time.

Revelation 21:6-7 also looks forward to the final fulfillment of God’s plan: “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him who thirsts.” Here, Jesus reassures believers that eternal life and divine fulfillment await those who trust in Him.

Conclusion: Living in Light of the Alap and the Tau

The declaration, “I am the Alap and the Tau,” reveals Jesus as the eternal, omnipotent God who holds the past, present, and future in His hands. Believers are called to live in light of this reality, knowing that Jesus, the Alap and the Tau, is with them in every season of life. His eternal nature and unchanging love offer security and hope, even in the midst of trials. In Him, they find the assurance that He who began a good work in them will bring it to completion (Philippians 1:6), fulfilling all that He has promised and restoring all things unto Himself.

Allah Says Singers and Listeners of Taarab Will Enter Hell

Allah will turn those Muslims who sing or listen to music into monkeys and pigs.

Allah will cause all Muslims who sing or listen to Bongo Fleva music to sink into the earth.

“And of the people is he who buys the amusement of speech to mislead others from the way of Allah without knowledge and takes it in ridicule. Those will have a humiliating punishment.” [Luqman: 6]

And Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) also commented on the verse: "And among people is he who buys idle speech" saying, "It refers to songs and other meaningless words." [Authentic Isnad from Shaykh Al-Albani].

Those Who Sing/Listen to Music Will Be Turned into Monkeys and Pigs

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “There will be people in my Ummah who will try to make lawful illegal sexual intercourse, silk, wine, and musical instruments. Some people will stay near a mountain, and their shepherd will come in the evening asking for something they need. They will say, 'Return to us tomorrow.' Allah will destroy them during the night, cause the mountain to fall on them, and turn the remaining ones into monkeys and pigs, and they will remain that way until the Day of Judgment” [Al-Bukhari].

This hadith confirms that all these sins carry the same level of prohibition: just as fornication and alcohol are forbidden, music is equally forbidden.

So how can a Muslim consider music as anything but a major sin to be avoided?

Imam Abu Hanifa said: "Singing (songs, dancing) is among the major sins that a Muslim should avoid immediately." A Muslim should fear that they might be punished by being transformed into a monkey or pig for these sins, as warned in the following hadith:

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also said: “People in my Ummah will drink wine, calling it by another name. Musical instruments will be played for them, and there will be singing women. Allah will cause the earth to swallow them and turn them into monkeys and pigs.” [Ibn Majah; Shaykh Al-Albani graded it Sahih]

Take Heed, Muslims, for Allah Does Not Approve of Taarab Music

ALLAH IS A BEING

  1. Allah has a face like beings

  2. Allah wears clothes like beings

My dear friends,

I begin by saying that this is a great tragedy for our brethren, especially those who deny that Allah has a likeness.

Today, I will provide several examples as evidence that Allah is a being.

Join me as we directly examine and learn about this being called Allah.

ALLAH ADMITS HE HAS A FACE

  1. Allah says: "Wherever you turn, there is the face of Allah." (Surah 2:115).

In the verse above, Allah has already responded to those who argue that He has no face. Is having a face not a human attribute?

  1. Allah says: "Everything will perish except His face." (Surah 28:88).

Dear friends, Allah continues to admit that He has a face like other beings.

ALLAH WEARS CLOTHING LIKE BEINGS

In a Qudsi Hadith, Allah says, "Pride is My upper garment and greatness is My lower garment."

So, if Allah wears clothing, does that mean He has a body like other beings?

This is indeed a great tragedy, dear readers.

In another Qudsi Hadith, Allah says: "...My servant continues to draw closer to Me with voluntary deeds until I love him. And when I love him, I become his hearing with which he hears, his sight with which he sees, his hand with which he grasps, and his foot with which he walks."

Here, Allah acknowledges that He has ears, hands, and eyes.

ALLAH SITS ON A THRONE LIKE BEINGS

In Surah 69:17 (Surat Al-Haqqah), we read: "And the angels will be at His sides, and eight will bear the Throne of your Lord above them..."

Again, in Surah 85:15 (Surat Al-Buruj), it mentions Allah as the owner of the Throne.

The question I pose to all Muslims is: If Allah owns a throne, what purpose does this throne serve? Perhaps some will be surprised by my question. I ask this to mean: does Allah sit on this throne as humans sit? If He sits as humans do, does He not also have legs like humans?

See Surah 69:44-45 (Surat Al-Haqqah): "And if [the Prophet] had made up about Us some [false] sayings, We would have seized him by the right hand."

This verse shows that Allah has a right hand. And if Allah has a right hand, does He not also have a left hand? And if Allah has hands, does He not also have a mouth? So, remove the idea that Allah has no likeness.

ALLAH HAS HANDS LIKE BEINGS

"Na hawakumheshimu Mwenyezi Mungu heshima ipasayo, na siku ya Kiyama ardhi yote itakuwa mkononi mwake na mbingu zitakunjwa katika mkono wake wa kulia." (Az-Zumar; 39:67)

"The hands" of Allah as depicted by certain Islamic sects.

Scholars from these sects have reported in their books from Abu Huraira, who narrated from the Prophet (peace be upon him): "Adam and Moses had the following conversation: Moses said, 'O Adam! Allah created you with His own hands... But you caused mankind to descend from Paradise due to your sin.' Adam replied, 'O Moses, Allah has indeed honored you, and He wrote the Torah for you with His own hands.'"

In another hadith narrated by Abu Huraira, we find:

"Allah descends to the first heaven and stretches out His two hands, saying..."

He then goes on to quote the following verses to support his claims:

"And the Jews say, 'The hand of Allah is chained.' Chained are their hands, and cursed are they for what they say. Rather, both His hands are extended; He spends however He wills..." (Al-Maida; 5:64)

"Exalted is He in whose hand is the dominion of all things, and to Him you will be returned." (Yasin; 36:83)

"Say, 'O Allah, Owner of Sovereignty, You give sovereignty to whom You will and You take sovereignty away from whom You will..."

So Islam is a religion specifically for Arabs. This is a great tragedy.

In this topic, I will present evidence showing that Islam is solely the religion of the Arabs, and Muhammad is their prophet.

Muslims tirelessly claim that Islam will dominate the whole world. In doing so, they go against the words of Allah as revealed in the Qur'an. Therefore, it’s right to say that they are rejecting the truth.

Qur'an 10:47: "And for every nation there is a messenger. When their messenger comes, they will be judged with justice, and they will not be wronged."

Consider this verse as well:

Qur'an 14:4: "We never sent a messenger except in the language of his people, to clarify for them. Then Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise."

If these verses are true, then Islam is not intended for non-Arab nations. The Qur'an states that every people received a message from God in their own language so that they could understand. The Qur'an was revealed to the Arabs so that they might understand what Allah is saying.

This concept of Allah revealing a book in every language is essential because it appears multiple times in the Qur'an and forms the basis of this lesson.

Qur'an 16:36: "And We certainly sent into every nation a messenger, [saying], ‘Worship Allah and avoid false gods.’ Among them were those whom Allah guided, and among them were those upon whom error was [deservedly] decreed. So proceed through the earth and observe how the end of the deniers was."

Qur'an 5:48: "And We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], the Book in truth, confirming that which preceded it of the Scripture and as a criterion over it. So judge between them by what Allah has revealed and do not follow their inclinations away from what has come to you of the truth. To each of you We prescribed a law and a method. Had Allah willed, He would have made you one nation [united in religion], but [He intended] to test you in what He has given you; so race to [all that is] good. To Allah is your return all together, and He will [then] inform you concerning that over which you used to differ."

Qur'an 36:5-6: "[This is] a revelation of the Mighty, the Merciful, so that you may warn a people whose forefathers were not warned, so they are unaware."

These verses are clear in explaining that Muhammad's mission was solely for the Arabs. Allah says in the Qur'an that every people has had its own prophet, who warned them in their own language, and that Muhammad was sent to those who had not yet received guidance, whose forefathers were not warned—that is, the Arabs. This way, they would have no excuse and could not say, "But we never received any message."

Qur'an 6:156-157: "[We revealed it] lest you say, 'The Scripture was only sent down to two groups before us, but we were of their study unaware,' or lest you say, 'If only the Scripture had been revealed to us, we would have been better guided than they.' So there has [now] come to you a clear proof from your Lord and a guidance and mercy. Then who is more unjust than one who denies the verses of Allah and turns away from them? We will recompense those who turn away from Our verses with the worst of punishment for their having turned away."

It is clear that the Qur'an was sent to the Arabs. Those who are not Arabs cannot understand the Qur'an; these are Allah's words. Muslims insist that no translation of the Qur'an can be correct, meaning it can never be clear for non-Arabs, and it was not sent to non-Arab nations.

Another confirmation that the Qur'an was intended only for the Arabs can be found in the following verses:

Qur'an 26:198-199: "And if We had revealed it to one among the foreigners, and he had recited it to them [the Arabs], they would [still] not have been believers."

Just as Arabs have the right not to believe in any book that is revealed in a language other than their own—meaning Arabic—so too, non-Arab nations have the right not to believe in the Qur'an, a book written in Arabic. That’s why the Qur'an says Allah will send a messenger to every language so that each people may understand.

To ensure there is no misunderstanding, Allah reveals this verse, Qur'an 5:19: "O People of the Book! There has come to you Our Messenger making things clear to you after a break in [the series of] messengers, lest you say, 'There came to us no bringer of good tidings or a warner.' But there has come to you a bringer of good tidings and a warner. And Allah is over all things competent."

According to the Qur'an, all peoples have received revelations. The above verse states that the Qur'an is for those who have not previously received any guidance, so that they would not say, "We were never sent a bringer of good tidings or a warner."

This is clear, but Allah wants to make it even more straightforward, mentioning specific geographical locations to ensure everyone understands that Muhammad was sent as Allah's messenger to the Arabs only.

Today, we have learned that the Qur'an was sent only for the Arabs and not for all nations. Now, I am sure some Muslims might bring up other verses saying that Islam is for all humankind. If Muslims do so, then they should know that by doing this, they are proving the above verses to be false.

Either the Qur'an is a collection of contradictions, or it is only for the Arabs of Mecca and its vicinity, as Allah, the god of Muslims, has stated.

What does the Quran say about pork?

(Surah An-Nisa 4:160). The Quran says in this verse, “So for the wrongdoing of the Jews, We prohibited for them good things that had been lawful to them, and for their averting from the way of Allah many people” [4:160].

This is a clear verse that ONLY the Jews were prohibited from eating GOOD THINGS because of their wrongdoing. God wanted to punish them by denying them certain GOOD THINGS. The Quran clearly acknowledges that pork is a GOOD THING. Do you see?

Surah An-Nisa verse 160 SAYS:

  1. It was the Jews who were prohibited from GOOD THINGS like "PORK."

  2. This verse states that PORK IS A GOOD THING.

QUESTIONS FOR MUSLIMS:

  1. Why don’t you eat the GOOD MEAT of PORK?

  2. It was only the Jews who were prohibited from eating PORK, so since when did you Muslims become like the Jews and stop eating GOOD THINGS like "PORK"?

THE QURAN SAYS JESUS CAME TO PERMIT EATING PORK:

The Quran teaches that Jesus came to permit what had been prohibited (Surah Al-Imran 3:50).

The Quran says in this verse, “And [I have come] confirming what was before me of the Torah and to make lawful for you some of what was forbidden to you. And I have come to you with a sign from your Lord, so fear Allah and obey me” [3:50].

These are the words of Jesus in the Quran, showing clearly that Jesus came to permit things that were forbidden in the Torah, and he commands us to obey him. It is clear that Jesus has allowed eating pork in the Quran.

Additionally,

THE QURAN SAYS THAT THE FOOD EATEN BY CHRISTIANS IS GOOD AND NOT FORBIDDEN:

The Quran has permitted Muslims to eat the good things that the People of the Book (Christians and Jews) eat (Surah Al-Ma'idah 5:3-5).

This surah (Al-Ma'idah), meaning "The Table Spread," states:

“...This day [all] good foods have been made lawful, and the food of those who were given the Scripture is lawful for you, and your food is lawful for them...” [5:5].

This is a clear verse permitting every Muslim to eat the food of Christians and Jews and for them to eat theirs.

THE QURAN TEACHES THAT GOD DID NOT PROHIBIT ANYTHING, BUT THE JEWISH ELDERS PROHIBITED THINGS THROUGH THEIR TRADITIONS:

(Surah Al-An'am 6:146) and warns against falsely attributing prohibitions to Allah (Surah An-Nahl 16:116).

The Quran instructs people to bring evidence for where God supposedly prohibited certain animals. See (Surah Al-An'am 6:150).

So, if you read the Quran carefully, you will see that nothing is truly prohibited. My Muslim brothers and sisters, eating pork is allowed, though in moderation. As the Quran teaches, this is the truth. If you do not believe, visit the Sabasaba grounds in Tanga, where fellow Muslims gather to eat pork often since they have learned this secret.

I am not trying to convince you, but as a true teacher of God's truth, “... You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

Muslims, now you know the truth; eat PORK, the GOOD THING as ALLAH has said in YOUR QURAN, Surah An-Nisa 4:160.

No human being before the arrival of Muhammad was ever a Muslim, nor did anyone know of Islam. If any Muslim can prove to me that there was someone who practiced Islam before the Quran existed, then I will convert to Islam.

Note: When providing evidence, do not use the Quran or any book that came after Muhammad. I need evidence from books that existed before Muhammad and the Quran, and avoid referencing practices Muhammad adopted from earlier people, such as:

a) Performing ablution (ritual washing).
b) Prostrating.
c) Wearing a robe.
d) Etc.

Claiming these practices as Islam requires textual proof from sources outside the Quran, which appeared in 610 AD. If there is written evidence that prostration, wearing a robe, and performing ablution are indeed Islam, then I will convert to Islam today.

CONSIDERATION: If you cannot find proof of Islam or the term "Islam" (الإسلام) in books that existed before the Quran, then acknowledge that you were misled into believing that Islam existed since the time of Adam. This is impossible, as figures such as:

You might wonder why I make this statement, considering that Muslims believe otherwise. This is because many Christians are being converted with the belief that Jesus Christ was a Muslim. Muslims use various arguments to associate Jesus with Islam, but today I will examine two of them.

(1) Jesus stating that He is humble.
(2) Jesus entering the synagogue.

These are the main criteria Muslims use to assert that Jesus was a Muslim; in Arabic, they say: كان يسوع مسلم (Jesus was a Muslim).

(1) Starting with their first argument, that Jesus was humble, I will quote the verse they use, explain their argument, and respond to it. For anyone willing to read, there is much to learn from this discussion:

Matthew 11:29 - "Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls."

Muslims claim that when Jesus said "I am humble," in Arabic, He would have said "أنا مسلم" (Ana’a Muslim) because the term “to submit” is used in the Quran to mean humility.

Quran 2: Surah Al-Baqarah
"When his Lord said to him, 'Submit!' he said, 'I have submitted to the Lord of all worlds.'" (2:131)

In this verse, the word for "submit" in Arabic is ﺃَﺳْﻠَﻤْﺖُ (Aslamtu), which Muslims interpret as "Islam is submission." Therefore, they claim that when Jesus said "I am humble," it implies He was Muslim, equating humility with Islam. However, to see the inconsistency, ask them about this person:

2 Corinthians 10:1 - "Now I, Paul, appeal to you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ—I who am humble when face to face with you, but bold toward you when I am away."

Ask them, "If being called humble makes one a Muslim, does Paul become a Muslim by saying he is humble?" They’ll respond that "Paul is a great disbeliever."

This raises the question: how can the same term make one person (Jesus) a Muslim and another person (Paul) a disbeliever, when both are described as humble? This shows the inconsistency in their argument. Now let me provide some insight on Jesus' humility: is it the same as the humility meant by Muslims, that is, Islam? I quote the Arabic Bible:

متس 11: 29 احملوا نيري عليكم و تعلموا مني لاني وديع و متواضع القلب فتجدوا راحة لنفوسكم
This is the Arabic Bible, Matthew 11:29, where Jesus says in Arabic:
وديع (Wadiiun, Gentle)
و متواضع (Wamutawadhwiu, Humble)
القلب (Al-qalbi, in Heart)

Jesus' humility is described as Mutawadhwiu (متواضع) and not Muslimani (مسلم) as Muslims claim. They often use such claims because they know most Christians do not understand Arabic. In the Arabic Bible, there is not a single instance where Jesus says:

وديع و مسلم القلب (Gentle and Muslim in Heart).

The term "Islam" only appears in the Quran, after Muhammad's time.

In Arabic, the word for a Muslim is مسلم, and humility is also classified in different ways in the Quran, such as humility in prayer, called ﺧَﺎﺷِﻌُﻮﻥَ (Khaashiuun).

Quran 23: Surah Al-Mu'minun
"In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful."

  1. "Successful indeed are the believers."

  2. "Those who are humble in their prayers."

If every form of humility was Islam, then it would have said:
فِي صَلاتهم مسلمون (Fi Salaatihim Muslimun)
But it actually says Fii Salaatihim Khaashiun, meaning "in their prayers, they are humble."

Even criminals under police custody act humbly, yet I have never heard Muslims claim that this is Islam simply because they show submission.

Moving to the second point:

(2) Jesus entering the synagogue.

Muslims argue that because Jesus entered a synagogue, He was following Islamic practices. However, this reasoning lacks understanding of the historical and cultural context. Synagogues were places of worship for Jews, not Muslims, and existed long before Islam was introduced. Jesus, as a Jew, observed Jewish customs and taught in synagogues, as recorded in the Gospels.

Luke 4:16 - "He went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day, he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. He stood up to read."

Jesus' actions align with Jewish traditions, not Islamic ones, since Islam did not exist during His lifetime. Associating Jesus with Islam based on His participation in Jewish practices disregards the fact that Judaism was the context of His life and teachings.

In conclusion, Jesus Christ’s humility and synagogue attendance cannot be used to categorize Him as a Muslim. The Islamic claim that Jesus was a Muslim because of these traits is based on selective interpretations rather than historical and textual evidence. Islam as a distinct religion began with Muhammad, centuries after Jesus. This notion of "Jesus the Muslim" misinterprets the historical and scriptural record.

Moreover, this misunderstanding stems from linguistic and contextual confusion. Muslims often claim that terms like "submission" or "humility" are unique indicators of Islam. However, these qualities are present across various religious traditions and human experiences, and they do not exclusively signify Islam.

To summarize, the claim that Jesus was a Muslim because He demonstrated humility or entered a synagogue does not hold up when examined closely. Jesus' life and teachings were rooted in the Jewish faith, which was the religious context in which He operated. His humility and actions are consistent with Jewish principles, and Judaism predated Islam by many centuries.

Islam, as a distinct religion with its own practices, theology, and terminology, began with Muhammad in the 7th century. Associating Jesus Christ with Islam based solely on the presence of certain virtues or behaviors misinterprets both the historical context and the scriptures.

Jesus demonstrated He is God
