HOW IS JESUS THE UNIQUE SON OF GOD?

HOW IS JESUS THE UNIQUE SON OF GOD?

Eight Life-Changing Truths Every Christian Should Know

In an age of religious confusion, many people ask, "Who is Jesus?" Some call Him a prophet, others a moral teacher, while many reduce Him to merely a historical figure. Yet the Bible presents Jesus as infinitely greater than all human descriptions.

The opening verses of Hebrews 1:1–3 provide one of the most magnificent portraits of Jesus Christ found anywhere in Scripture. These verses reveal why Jesus is not simply a Son of God, but the unique, eternal Son of God, equal with the Father in divine nature and worthy of all worship.

1. Jesus Is God's Final and Perfect Revelation

"In these last days He has spoken to us by His Son..." (Hebrews 1:2)

Throughout the Old Testament, God revealed Himself through prophets such as Moses, Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Ezekiel. Their messages were true, but they were partial. They pointed forward to Someone greater.

Jesus did not merely bring another message from God—He is God's final and complete revelation to humanity.

The prophets said, "Thus says the Lord."

Jesus declared, "Truly, truly, I say unto you..."

The voice of God reached its fullest expression in Jesus Christ.

2. Jesus Is the Eternal Son of God

Hebrews emphasizes that Jesus possesses a unique relationship with the Father unlike any created being.

Believers become children of God through adoption (John 1:12), but Jesus is the eternal Son, sharing the very nature of the Father.

His Sonship is not something He acquired; it is who He eternally is.

This is why rejecting Christ is the greatest spiritual tragedy. Outside the Son there is no salvation (Acts 4:12).

3. Jesus Is the Heir of All Things

God appointed Christ as Heir of all creation (Hebrews 1:2).

Everything belongs to Him:

  • Heaven

  • Earth

  • The nations

  • Every kingdom

  • Every generation

One day every knee will bow before the rightful King (Philippians 2:9–11).

Those who belong to Christ also become fellow heirs with Him (Romans 8:17).

4. Jesus Is the Creator of the Universe

Hebrews declares that God created the worlds through His Son.

This agrees perfectly with:

  • John 1:1–3

  • Colossians 1:16–17

  • Genesis 1

Jesus was never a created being.

He is the Creator Himself.

The One born in Bethlehem is the very One who created the stars, galaxies, oceans, mountains, and mankind.

Only God creates everything from nothing.

5. Jesus Radiates the Glory of God

Hebrews says Christ is "the brightness of His glory."

Throughout Israel's history God's glory filled:

  • Mount Sinai

  • The Tabernacle

  • Solomon's Temple

Yet all these manifestations pointed toward Jesus.

The fullness of God's glory is perfectly revealed in Christ.

When we look at Jesus, we see the glory of God shining without limitation.

6. Jesus Is the Exact Image of God's Nature

Hebrews declares that Jesus is "the express image of His person."

This means Jesus perfectly reveals the invisible God.

Jesus Himself declared:

"He who has seen Me has seen the Father." (John 14:9)

Paul confirms:

"For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily." (Colossians 2:9)

Jesus is not a lesser deity nor merely God's representative.

He is fully God while remaining personally distinct from the Father.

7. Jesus Sustains the Entire Universe

Hebrews teaches that Christ upholds all things by the word of His power.

Every planet continues in orbit because Christ sustains it.

Every law of nature remains consistent because Christ governs creation.

Every heartbeat, every sunrise, every season testifies that the universe continues because Jesus holds it together.

Colossians declares:

"By Him all things consist." (Colossians 1:17)

Our Savior is not absent from creation.

He actively rules over it every moment.

8. Jesus Offered the Perfect and Final Sacrifice for Sin

The climax of Hebrews is not merely Christ's greatness but His redeeming work.

Unlike the Old Testament priests who continually offered sacrifices that could never permanently remove sin, Jesus offered one perfect sacrifice forever.

On the cross He cried:

"It is finished." (John 19:30)

His sacrifice needs no repetition.

No human work can add to what Christ has already completed.

Salvation is received by faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ.

The Enthroned Lord

After accomplishing redemption, Jesus sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.

The Old Testament priests never sat because their work was never finished.

Jesus sat because His work was complete.

Today He reigns in glory, intercedes for His people, and will one day return as King of kings and Lord of lords.

Our Response

Hebrews begins by exalting Jesus because everything in the Christian faith depends upon Him.

If Jesus is merely a prophet, He cannot save us.

If Jesus is merely a teacher, He cannot forgive our sins.

But if Jesus is the eternal Son of God—Creator, Sustainer, Savior, and Lord—then He alone deserves our complete trust, worship, obedience, and love.

The apostle Thomas finally understood this glorious truth when he fell before Jesus and confessed:

"My Lord and my God!" (John 20:28)

May that confession become ours every day.

Jesus is God's final Word.
Jesus is God's eternal Son.
Jesus is the Creator.
Jesus is the radiance of God's glory.
Jesus is the exact image of God's nature.
Jesus sustains the universe.
Jesus died once for our sins.
Jesus reigns forever.

To Him be all glory, honor, and praise forever. Amen.
